ORGANIZATION: Rain Tees
PERFECT FOR: Gifts of shirts for the tree hugger in your life; stocking stuffers of gift certificates
COST: $25 – $38
WHAT YOU GET: Mostly t-shirts, one tote bag available
WHAT YOU GIVE: School supplies to children who live in endangered rainforests and one tree “planted in a critically endangered area of the world”
BOASTS: Rain Tees has funded art and education in more than 15 countries while donating thousands of school supplies. Rain Tees partners with Trees for the Future, an organization that has planted nearly 65 million trees since 1988, and helped thousands of communities in Central America, Africa, and Asia improve their livelihoods and environment through cutting edge agroforestry and reforestation projects. Each year these trees remove over one million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere. (Mostly quoted directly from the website.)
LEGITIMACY: Trees for the Future is a 501c3 organization. From what I can tell, Rain Tees isn’t an official non-profit, nor is it registered on the BBB website.
MORE DETAILS: So here’s how it works: they give school supplies to these kids in endangered rainforests, ask them to draw pictures, and then put those pictures on shirts whose sales go toward saving rainforests, i.e., the children’s home. I mean, gosh, that’s cool.
